30x30 Indonesia curates restoration events whilst creating opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds to partake in non-traditional education sessions, emphasizing on intergenerational collaboration. The project’s main objectives are to centralize efforts to advocate for the global goal to protect at least 30% of the world’s ocean through a network of Marine Protected Areas.
Over 15,500 signatures from all across Indonesia calling on the ratification of the Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) Agreement.
Thanks to the support of the High Seas Youth Ambassador program by High Seas Alliance and EarthEcho International, we have managed to raise awareness on the High Seas through various workshops and outreach events. This includes co-hosting a hybrid event in Jakarta with Indonesia Ocean Justice Initiative to understand what this Agreement means for Indonesia.
The speakers comprehensively covered what the BBNJ means for this large maritime nation, the potential of ratification, and youth perspectives on large-scale ocean protection in the context of 30x30. We were joined by scientists, academics, government officials, non-governmental organizations, lawyers, youth, and more!Â
We are pleased that the 30x30 goal has been included coming out of the G20 Leaders Declaration. This includes the commitment to protect 30% of the world's ocean and 30% of the world's land by 2030.
